Set your alarms for next week. Glastonbury Festival has revealed the details of its 2025 Emerging Talent Competition, and entries are next week.

It’s an initiative aimed at giving promising new acts from the UK and Ireland a chance to perform on one of the festival’s main stages. The competition, which is free to enter, is supported by PRS for Music and PRS Foundation.

Open to artists from all musical genres, the competition will run for one week only, opening at 9am on Monday 27 January, and closing at 5pm on Monday 3 February 2025. To enter, acts are required to submit a YouTube link to one original song, along with a link to a video of themselves performing live.

What the winners get…

The winner of this prestigious competition will secure a performance slot at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival, one of the world’s most iconic music events. They’ll also receive a fat £5,000 Talent Development prize from PRS Foundation. This is to support the next steps in their songwriting and performing career.

Two runners-up will each receive a PRS Foundation £2,500 Talent Development prize.

A commitment to diversity and inclusivity is central to the competition. Glastonbury Festival has encouraged entries from disabled artists, with additional support available to ensure equal opportunities for all participants.

We’re assuming this commitment to diversity also includes mature entrants. Waiting to hear back from them on this but will update you!

The selection process begins with a panel of 30 leading UK music writers who will create a longlist of 90 acts from the entries. This longlist will then be reviewed by a judging panel, including Glastonbury organisers Michael and Emily Eavis, to identify eight finalists. These finalists will compete in live performances at the Pilton-based finals, where the ultimate winner will be decided.

Michael and Emily Eavis have expressed their excitement about the upcoming competition, which continues to serve as a vital platform for emerging artists. Previous winners of the Emerging Talent Competition have gone on to achieve significant success. Many have returned to perform on Glastonbury’s stages in subsequent years, such as Declan McKenna and Marie White.

For aspiring artists, this is a unique opportunity to showcase their talent on one of the biggest platforms in music. Entries open on 27th January 2025, and the Festival team is eager to discover the next wave of musical talent.

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris hits cinemas this Friday, 30 September. We’re here to share some exclusive behind the scenes shots from the film. Plus, we’ve got some special editions of the book to give away.

The comedy-drama is based on the beloved 1958 novel, Mrs ‘Arris Goes to Paris. The story follows Ada Harris after receiving her war widow’s pension. The London housekeeper, who’s long admired her employer’s own Christian Dior dress, dreams of having one of her own. Watch her adventure as she travels to Paris to achieve her dream.

This charming film stars Lesley Manville, Jason Isaacs, and Matrix actor, Lambert Wilson. It’ll be the third screen adaptation of this beloved Paul Gallico novel, and the first to feature in cinemas.

A nationwide search was launched yesterday, with animal lovers around the UK invited to take part by submitting photographs of themselves – or their family members – alongside their doppelgängers. And it’s not just about dogs.

All pets, from dogs, cats and hamsters, to birds, fish and even reptiles are invited to join in the fun

The ‘Doggie Doubles’ campaign aims to collate the UK’s largest collection of photographs of people who resemble their much-loved animals. All pets, from dogs, cats and hamsters, to birds, fish and even reptiles are invited to join in the fun – the only rule is that they need to be a dead ringer for their owner, or vice versa.

We’re not sure whether anyone could actually look like their fish, but we’d very much like to see it.

People of all ages from around the country can take part by sharing a photograph of themselves and their pet on social media, using the hashtag #DoggieDouble. So time to perfect that selfie with your lookalikey pet!

The initiative, which aims to set a record for the UK’s largest pet look-a-like gallery, has been launched by My Nametags, a British name tag and label company, in support of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home charity. Organisers are hoping to gather hundreds of photographs for the gallery, which will be hosted online at www.mynametags.com/Battersea-dogs

Lars B. Andersen, managing director at My Nametags, said: “We want to set a record for biggest ever gallery of people who look like their pets. We’re launching the initiative in celebration of our much-loved pets, and in support of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.”

As an added incentive for the best selfies, My Nametags will be giving one entrant per day a free set of name labels, either for them or their pet, and has also partnered with dotcomgiftshop.com to give away a bundle of goodies worth £100 to one lucky entrant. The winner will be the duo with the most votes on the My Nametags’ ‘Doggie Double’ online gallery.

The prize includes products from dotcomgiftshop’s pet accessories range, which includes fun and colourful bandanas, collars, leads, and even socks for their beloved pet.

The competition will run from Thursday 12th October until Monday 13th November 2017. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 8th November 2017.
